Satarupa Pyne is an Indian model-turned-actor starring in the movie Calendar Girls by Madhur Bhandarkar. (Other models starring in the movie include Akanksha Puri, Ruhi Singh, Kyra Dutt and Avani Modi)
Tell us something about your role in the movie Calendar Girls.
The movie revolves around the story of a Bengali bombshell Paroma Ghosh, who hails from a mediocre family in the City of Joy and aims to make it big – to be one of the top 5 calendar girls. My character might stress on some real life controversies involving cricket… you will have to watch the film to know further.
How did you prepare to get into the skin of your character?
This character was absolutely made for me. I didn’t have to change a thing about me to play Paroma Ghosh.
How was your experience working with Madhur Bhandarkar?
Oh, he is the best. He is fun yet a perfectionist. He will charm you with his mimicry on set, yet at the same he will bring out the best in you. He knows what he wants from life, he makes sure of it, and he gets it. He treated me like a queen, and I m so proud to be his heroine today.
We heard that you had to shoot with tigers. Tell us about that.
Yes! The scariest day of my life happened on the set of Calendar Girls in Mauritius. I was stranded with two wild tigers for over an hour to shoot a song sequence. Every time I made any effort to pose for the camera or do my act, they would look at me and open their mouth, to yawn, and the sight of it would kill me within. It took a lot of courage to make my mind understand that I have to shoot with them.
Tell us about your equation with your co-stars.
All my co-stars are amazing. I am proud to share the screen space with them. They are so stunning.
Do you have a wish list of directors with whom you would like to work with in the future?
Rohit Shetty, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Sujit Sarkar, Anurag Kashyap, Anurag Basu, Aditya Chopra, Karan Johar, Farah Khan and many more! (Yes I am dreaming too much!)
Do you have any kind of insecurity working in a multi-star film?
Not at all! A Madhur Bhandarkar film always gives you an equal space to prove yourself.
From a ramp diva to starring in Madhur Bhandarkar’s dream project – How do you feel?
I feel complete. I feel nothing is impossible for a willing heart!
