Dr. Geetika Mittal Gupta is a doctor turned entrepreneur who is now into wellness– Her flagship centre ISSAC Medispa is located in Chattarpur New Delhi and the ISSAC specialty womanhood wellness clinic at G.K. 1. Here she talks about the pros and cons of a women entrepreneurs.

“I feel that in order to be a successful entrepreneur, one has to have an indomitable spirit, boundless enthusiasm, tremendous self-belief, be a bit of a visionary and have the ability to take the knocks. People management skills are also very important. What I have learnt is that a brand should reflect the core values that the organization stands for and that it takes years of hard work, dedication and commitment to build a brand. Even then, it just takes one wrong action or misjudgment to cast a cloud on a brand which has been assiduously built over a period of time,” says Geetika.

Entrepreneurship emerges from an individual’s creative spirit into long-term business ownership, job creation, and economic security. Economic globalization has encouraged the expansion of female business ownership.

The constraints that women entrepreneurs face when entering the business world are:

  • The risks of particularly high failure rate as far as the running of the business is concerned.
  • Woman entrepreneurs have to face up to both their business as well as their family problems.
  • Development as entrepreneurs is a recently discovered phenomenon for women for which they need motivation, training and family support.

There exists a plethora for opportunities for women in the Beauty and Wellness industry, be it as cosmetologists, spa therapists, nutritionists or even as managers of Beauty and Wellness centers. As Dr. Gupta says “At ISAAC itself, for example, most of our facilities – slimming, laser, skin therapies etc. are managed by women who also have a share in the profits in keeping with our constant efforts to become the best place for women to work.”

As per a FICCI-PwC report titled ‘Imperatives for growth: The wellness industry,’ released in August 2013, India’s Wellness sector grew 18-20 per cent year-on-year in 2012 to touch a market size of Rs. 70,000 crore. The report projects that the Indian Wellness sector will continue to show a strong growth trajectory in the coming years also, with the market size likely to rise to Rs. 100,000 crore in 2015. With the growth of the Wellness industry in the past few years, there can be little doubt that the stage is set for women entrepreneurs to rise up in the upcoming future.
