Simple Style Additions Right From London Fashion
Who says brunches require just the staple something white or pastel. Or a night out means the same old LBD. Is the rest all just for the runaways? And the who’s who of Bollywood?
For a 20-year-old girl, the phrase is like – “The world is my runway” came to life, as I spent a year in the fabulous city of London. The city of royalty, culture, glamour and fashion. I found inspiration everywhere!
With it’s royal heritage, the city’s flare of elegance, grooming and sophistication can strongly be seen even in the daily fashion sense of all its inhabitants. However, the strong influence of punk and edge is just as prominent in today’s fashion circuit as it was during the 1970’s British rock invasion. The coexistence of these paradoxes in London’s fashion is inspirational.
So are the trends just for the Indian fashion weeks, and the streets of London?
Absolutely not!
Here’s 3 simple style additions right from the London fashion circuit that can be weaved into your wardrobe effortlessly to make you the locally made globally grown fashionista.
Blazers and Jackets
Personally I love jackets! Looking the part is a definite boost of confidence and power for a boss woman, that’s exactly what a well-fitted blazer or jacket, does for me. Taking away the boredom from boardrooms.
Jackets are massively trending with styles and fabrics that are fit for all seasons.
So for your summers, opt for lose fitted cotton trenches, or capes.
Use your winters to turn your tank top summer savers into an elegant ensemble by adding an edgy, structured or draped jacket.
Graphic or plain tees with coloured blazers or bombers, taking you from street to chic real quick.
It’s the perfect blend of elegance and edge.
Added Bonus: it’s a great slimming effect for all those flabby arms and not so toned waists so who said your body’s got be worth a million bucks for you to look like a million bucks!
Waistcoats
For those that still do disagree about jackets in summer, fear not! For I have a spectacular solution!
Waistcoats are making a lot of appearances in fashion around the world. You’ll see it because easily available in all your top high street brands. Waistcoats solve your outfit problems whether it’s a casual look, a concert, a night out, a brunch or a formal you name it and a waistcoat can quiet literally just about cover your issue and represent your own personal unique style quotient.
Add a sequence or snazzy detailed waistcoat to your favourite LBD to wear it again and again. Your shorts and that colour tank that almost made the cut but just wasn’t concert worthy until a fringe or lace beauty made it so? I know the feeling.
Longer, structured and neutral colour waistcoats for that formal and business looks with a georgette ruffle top and pants or even a pencil skirt.
Printed floral, cutwork or embroider, draped waistcoats for a brunch/day wear to represent the feminine fashion sense without being boring or repetitive, mix it up with palazzos, flared dresses and skirts.
Quilted and biker waistcoats are your winter fashion savers for days that aren’t too cold to look incredibly good.
My personal favourite is incorporating it into your Indian styles with a heavy sequence/cutwork/embroider waistcoat with dhoti’s or even formal pants. The same can be topped up with skinny jeans for a nightout or a brunching to add that personal desiflare.
Scarfs and Stoles
I would have expected that the hopeless romantic women of our country would have transformed the dupatta trend into fashionable scarfs faster than our worldwide counterparts. Sigh! When will we learn, the dupatta or as I suggest a scarf is nothing but a desiversion of Cinderella glass sandal. If it isn’t waving in the boy’s face and leaving him in a dizzy how will he ever fall in love?
Bring to life those Bollywood dreams looking nothing less than couture class like Sonam in Aisha.
Whether its summer favourite short cotton floral stoles, or winter’s woollen blends scarves, your signature McQueen skulls and Gucci holograms or the equally interesting Sarojni Nagar finds, it’s a simple accessory addition that adds oomph! Completing any killer outfit with a stroke of panache.
Tips: If your top or dress is printed, stick to a simple non-printed stole/scarf. And save those interesting patterns for your plain sweater days. Make sure you are comfortable with choosing the right material for the season; it’s also a faux pa to be thinking you can pull off a fur or woollen blend in summer!
Silk vintage prints are one of personal favourites, its elegance personified to a simple white shirt look.
So here’s three simple style additions, which give you the effortless, no stress quick remedies. Minimalist layers that save you from scares of over and under dressing plus an additional boost of confidence for all body types. Step out of your comfort zone and into a layer of these and remember to always keep it
classy and trendy.
