Take care of your skin this winter season

How we all love the nip in the air when winter is just around the corner! It’s the perfect time to snuggle up with a piping hot cup of coffee at home or step outdoors and enjoy nature in all its glory. As romantic as our notions of winter might be, we mustn’t forget that the cold and dry season can literally spell doom for our skin if we don’t take preventive measures. Here are some quick and easy ways to protect your facial and body skin this winter and look your flawless best as you indulge in the many pleasures of this wonderful season!

 

Hydrate well

We often tend to feel less thirsty in the winter and therefore assume that our body needs less water. This is as far from the truth as can be. It is imperative to hydrate the skin from within during the cold and dry season. Besides drinking the mandatory 8-10 glasses of water every day, you can maintain the sheen of your skin by sipping on warm herbal tea.

Avoid hot water baths

Swap the piping hot water in your bath with lukewarm water. As the mercury dips, it’s very tempting to shower with water that is really hot. But trust us, that little bit of self-control is really worth it. In fact, besides just the skin, really hot water baths are also very bad for your hair and scalp. They sap all the moisture out and damage the skin and hair in more ways than one.

Moisturise well

As obvious as this may sound, often many of us forget the importance of moisturising regularly. In the winter, moisturising twice a day or after every bath should be on the top of your priority list. Interestingly, you can also add a few drops of milk to your bathwater to get that supple softness in your skin at this time of the year.

Heal at home

When your skin begins to feel too tight and dry, head to your kitchen for some easy cures. Washing your face once a week with Greek yoghurt is a great way to get that gorgeous glow back. Mash up some bananas and mix them up with whole grains and apply all over the body for a nice, smooth elasticity.

Protect yourself well

Don’t all of us love to walk outdoors and soak up the Sun in the winter. But it’s imperative to protect yourself well as the winter Sun can be very damaging directly. Don’t forget to slather on a sunscreen lotion of a high SPF even if you can’t really see the Sun. Long exposure to cold winter winds is also equally harmful so make sure you are covered up with a scarf, hat and gloves when the chill in the air is harsh.
