Varun Jhamb: Abs Are Made In The Kitchen
For 24-year-old actor and model Varun Jhamb, who incidentally is also an MBA student, fitness is a addiction. Varun, who has modelled for over 60 brands including Vodafone, Mens Health, Microsoft and Hero Cycles is on the brink of a career in Bollywood. He has already done a cameo in Vicky Donor and is a college stud, thanks to his ripped body in Sixteen.
A regular at Olympia whenever he is not travelling, he says, “As a teenager, I was extremely thin. I started gymming to put on weight and build muscle. First I began working out with light weights on my own with the help of YouTube videos. I did not take any proteins, supplements or steroids, but instead, I depended on an all natural diet and a strict exercise regime. I firmly believe that abs are made in the kitchen so I am very particular about my diet and my daily schedule. A good body is as much about mental strength as physical strength.”
In order to keep his lean physique, Varun starts his day at 8 in the morning. In breakfast he eats oats or cornflakes, milk and six eggs. In lunch, he takes boiled rice with dal or chapattis, and kababs or boiled chicken. “I also include, chana, soyabean and sprouts as snacks and make sure I have five litres of water and an apple everyday and a cup or two of coffee. The basic idea is to have five meals a day, two with proteins, two with complex carbohydrate and one with vitamins and minerals.”
Understanding that six pack is no easy job, Varun says, “I remember I cried when I got my abs. Besides my diet, I also do one-hour of cardio. The amount of exercise you need to do depends on your body metabolism. I usually do 40 minutes of weights, 30 minutes of abs and 15 handstands.”
As for his idol, Varun signs off saying, “Shah Rukh Khan was my inspiration. He is my ‘God’. His body was amazing in Om Shanti Om. My ambition is to become a Bollywood star and to open a cross-fit gym.
