Sports oriented films in Bollywood
India is obsessed with Bollywood; same cannot be said for sports (cricket is excluded because it is a religion). Although the sports culture is popular in our country, this has not stopped directors and producers from making films based on sports. Almost every sports related film which has come out in India has received recognition from the audience. Although the films follow the pattern of all the sports movies around the world, they are still liked by the audience.
Here we are going to tell you about the top sports movies which have been.
Chak De India (2007) – Many consider this as Shah Rukh Khan’s finest. This is a story of former Indian hockey player who falls out of favour from the society because he loses a hockey final to Pakistan. The story is about his redemption and how he still wants to prove that he has always played for India. It is a story of the Indian women hockey team and how from being the underdogs, they go on to win the Hockey World Cup. The ‘Sattar Minute’ speech has become the most famous dialogues of the past decade.
Joh Jeeta Wahi Sikander (1992)– No other sports film has inspired generations than Jo Jeeta Wahi Sikander. Although, it had taken the plot from a Hollywood coming of age movie, Breaking Away, it still managed to capture hearts of the Indian audience. It showed the innocence of childhood and how certain incidents in life can change a person. It is still loved by the Indian audience.
Iqbal (2005) – Another gem from Nagesh Kukunoor, no movie other sports movie across the world is as sweet as this. Every cricket player dreams to play for his country, Iqbal is no different. The movie was a critical hit.
Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (2013) – This is a story about India’s greatest athlete of all times, Milkha Singh. Paan Singh Tomar (2012) – This is another true but sad story of an Indian soldier who had ruled the national games for quite some time, but is forced to turn into a dacoit, because of certain circumstances.
