A few facts which you definitely did not know about Nobel Prize for Economic Sciences
Nobel Prize for the year 2015 was announced on Monday at 4:30 pm IST. There is a misconception that it is stated in Alfred Nobel’s will to select the winners, but the truth is that the Sveriges Riksbank (Sweden’s Central Bank) had started this awarded in the memory of Alfred Nobel in 1968.
The prize is awarded through the donations made by the Sveriges Riksbank on their 300th anniversary.

Since 1969, 46 Nobel Prizes have been given in the field of economic sciences to 75 laureates.
Till date, only one woman has won the Nobel Prize for Economic Sciences and her name is Elinor Ostrom.
Kenneth J Arrow was the youngest laureate at the age of 51 when he was awarded the prize in 1972.
Leonid Hurwicz was the oldest recipient when he was awarded the prize when he was 90-years-old.
23 Prizes in Economic Sciences have been awarded to one laureate only.
Two Nobel Laureates of Economic Sciences are related to other recipients – Gunnar Myrdal who won the award in 1974 was married to Alva Myrdal who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1982. 1969 Nobel Laureate Jan Tinbergen’s brother Nikolaas Tinbergen won the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 1973.
