Major boost for MSME sector
The union government launched the ‘Housing for all by 2022’ on June 18, which was chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This comes as good news for all the MSMEs in the country, as the majority of the material which will be used for the construction of the houses, will come from the small and medium scale entrepreneurs. As far as the construction material is concerned, if you take out the steel and cement, rest everything such as, stone, granite flooring, furniture, electricals, building hardware, glass doors and windows will be provided by the MSMEs.
The scheme will be launched in phases. It will cover the entire urban area which consists of 4041 statutory towns. The initial focus will be on 500 Class 1 cities and will majorly be implemented as a Centrally Sponsored Scheme.
The scheme targets rehabilitation of slum dwellers with the help of private developers using land as a resource. There will also be the promotion of affordable housing for the weaker section of the society. There is also an estimation that the central government might provide funds worth 2-3 lakh crore rupees and the scheme itself might pull and investment in the range of 12-13 crore rupees.
The central government will also provide assistance to the Economically Weaker Sections of the Society by providing Rs 1.5 lakh per house. Apart from this Rs 1 lakh will also be given on an average, under the slum rehabilitation programme.
