Things engineering students go through
Engineers in India are a queer bunch. As a community, when they are in college they are called nerds, but once they come out of it, they are the cool ones. Engineers in India have some sort of a love-hate relationship with the rest of the country. There are a lot of things which engineers go through once they are in college; for example, more than half of the country’s youth want to become engineers; they really have to fight it out. There are more applicants than seats available, and because of the reservation the competition for general seats becomes really tough. Their college lives are quite different than the rest of country.
Here we are going to give you a brief insight into the lives of engineers.
Twisted Gender Ratio – It is a common knowledge that in most of the engineering colleges the male student population is significantly more than the female student population. Lack of women might create havoc in your mind. If you are hoping to find girls in an engineering college, your hopes might be dashed against a rock.
Fear of failing – Throughout their years as an engineering student, their whole academic calendar will be marked by countless papers, weekly tests, sessional tests, lab tests and vivas. No matter how hard they try, they get at least one back. They can’t do anything about it. It is bound to happen at some point.
Assignment – What really happens in an engineering college when an assignment is given that it is a ‘joint effort’? By joint effort, we do not mean everyone does it while smoking up. What happens is that when one person finishes his assignment (mostly the topper of the class), he shares his or her assignment with the rest. Most of the assignment is just photocopied.
Study Sessions in the library – Throughout the year the library will remain empty, but as soon as the exam clouds begin to hover, it is slowly filled with students who want to study in peace and quiet and they usually come in groups. What they end up doing is snacking, chatting and sleeping. They do everything except studying.
Screwed-up sleep cycle – With deadlines to meet almost every day engineering students remain sleep deprived throughout. Sleep becomes like a luxury which they can hardly afford.
