MSME ministry launches schemes for women entrepreneurs

In order to boost the employment opportunities among the women entrepreneurs, the ministry of Micro Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) is aiming to implement special dedicated schemes for Women Entrepreneurship Development. This news was announced at the parliament by the MSME ministry.

These schemes will include Trade Related Entrepreneurship Assistance and Development (TREAD) Scheme and Mahila Coir Yojana, Minister of state for MSME Giriraj Singh informed the Lok Sabha in a written reply.

The TREAD scheme envisages economic empowerment for women through trade relating training, information and counseling extension activities related to trades, products, and services. Under the scheme, financial loans will be provided by nationalized banks and grants by the Government of India at the rate of 30 percent of the loan subject to maximum limit of Rs 30 lakh through NGOs for capacity building and for undertaking self-employment ventures by women in non-farm activities.

Under the Mahila Coir Yojana, financial assistance will be provided for motorized ratts for spinning coir yarn to women artisans after giving training.

Funds allocated for these scheme during the ongoing year (2015-16) is Rs 6.70Cr, informed the minister.
