A government institute to help small-scale entrepreneurs

There have been quite a number of times that a particular person wants to start his or her own small business but is unable to do because of various factors. Some of them lack financial independence while some of them lack the technical know-how. Although the government has taken steps to create awareness about its various entrepreneurship schemes, people are still unaware of these schemes. There are various institutes which come under the government.

Here we will talk about the National Institute for Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development

The National Institute of Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development is one of the top most institutes under the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises. The institute deals in training, consultancy, research and publication related to entrepreneurship. This is done to promote entrepreneurship in the country.

Some of the activities carried out by the institute are, Training of Trainers (TOT), Management Development Programmes (MDP), Entrepreneurship-cum-Skill Developments programmes (ESDP) and Entrepreneurship Development Programmes (EDP). The institute till date has trained more than 2.60 lakh trainees from over 125 countries. The institute has also been given the approval by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) for starting a Post Graduate diploma programme in Entrepreneurship Management. A total of 60 seats will be available for the course.

The aim of the institute is to promote, support and sustain entrepreneurship and small-scale businesses through the following three activities:

Training: Training the people and filling up the gaps in their knowledge is the institute’s primary aim. Through training, the government wants to help promote the culture of entrepreneurship among the different sections of the society. The government also aims to play a supportive and a catalytic role by helping those organisations which are directly or indirectly engaged in promoting entrepreneurship and employment in the country.

Consultancy: The institute also offers consultancy services to those who are engaged in entrepreneurial training, both in governmental and public sector. The institute helps in designing and standardizing the course curriculum and skill development programmes. The institute acts as an advisor to state and central governments in the field of entrepreneurship and MSMEs.

Research and Development: Promotion of entrepreneurial activities in the MSME sector is one the primary tasks of the institute. It also prepares and publishes information related to entrepreneurship development.
