Tips to play a safe Holi

1 (5)With Holi just round the corner, many people are looking forward to spending the long weekend celebrating the festival of colours with their families and loved ones. Holi marks the end of the winter season. People are looking forward to enjoying the Holi after-parties. Celebrating Holi is a fun thing to do, but this fun often turns into a nightmare for some people.

Each year we come across incidents where colours have harmed someone’s skin or they have caused an eye problem. The Holi frenzy reaches such heights that after a certain point, it does more harm than good. These days, a majority of the colours that are used in Holi are not natural; they have chemical substances which are very harmful for our skin.

Here are some tips that will help protect your skin from harmful colours.

Clothes: Wear clothes that cover most of your body. Wearing waterproof tights or a swimsuit underneath your regular clothes can help minimise the effects of harmful chemicals.

Apply Oil: Apply oil and moisturiser all over your body and let it soak for 15 minutes. This will make it difficult for the colour to stay. Also when you are having a bath, it helps to get rid of the colours faster.

Use of colours: When playing Holi, red and pink colours are preferable, as they are much easier to remove as compared to green, orange and purple. Colours other than red and pink tend to have more chemicals. Use herbal or natural colours. You can also make a few colours at home. Red sandalwood powder can be used to make red colour, while henna can be used to make dark green colour.

Removal of colours: While removing colours try and use soaps that moisturise the skin. Strong soaps tend to cause rashes. Also apply moisturiser after you take a bath, as the skin tends to dehydrate.
