Yet another possible gem from Akshay Kumar?
The first trailer of the Akshay Kumar starrer is out and boy, it does look promising. Coming from the makers of Baby and D-Day, Airlift has the making of yet another gem from Akshay Kumar. While the Khans are busy making mindless films (Happy New Year and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo), it is Akshay Kumar’s films that are both commercially and critically acclaimed.
Airlift will be released on January 22nd, 2016. The film is based on true life incidents which happened during the Invasion of Kuwait in 1990. The story is about an Indian-origin businessman, Ranjit Katyal (Akshay Kumar). He is a wealthy and a powerful Indian businessman, who sees himself as a Kuwaiti rather than an Indian. Things go haywire when Iraq invades Kuwait. He suddenly finds himself at crossroads.
Airlift is a true story of Indians stranded in Kuwait during this time. It is a story of how they all manage to survive the invasion. It is a story of how they all traveled thousands of kilometers into Amman and Jordan. From Amman, 1, 70,000 Indians were brought home by the largest and the most successful evacuation ever attempted by any country in the world. Over 59 days, the government of India systematically flew over 488 commercial flights into the war zone to evacuate all the 1, 70,000 Indians.
The movie has been directed by Raja Krishna Menon. The film also stars Nimrat Kaur and Purab Kohli.
