Following the footsteps of the Maharashtra government, now Haryana bans beef
It has not even been a month when beef was banned in Maharashtra, and now even the Haryana government has banned beef in the state. The sale and even possession of beef will be a punishable offence with a fine ranging from Rs, 30,000 to Rs one lakh. Cow slaughter will also lead to a prison term ranging between three to ten years. The punishment for the crime will be much more severe than in the state of Maharashtra.
The Haryana assembly passed the Gau Sanrakshan Avm Gau Samwardhan Bill 2015. In case the convict is unable to pay the sum, he will attract a term of one year of rigorous imprisonment. Haryana’s Animal Husbandry Minister OP Dhankar informed that the bill has been carefully planned after doing studying the laws on cow slaughter of different states. He also added that the laws in Haryana for the crime will the toughest in the country. Not only this, even the vehicle which will be found carrying beef will be impounded by the police and even the driver will face the consequences.
Dhankar also clarified that no move has been made to book people under section 302(murder) of the Indian Penal Code for slaughter of cow.
The BJP government of the state has decided to impose a full ban on the sale of beef in Haryana. Even canned beef will be banned which was earlier legal during the congress lead government. The Manohar Lal Khattar government is all set to ban the beef in the state.
There are around three lakh cows living in the 400 gaushalas (Cow Sheds) across the state and 1.5 lakh stray cows and around 1 lakh cows being used in the agricultural and animal husbandry sector. The government also plans to construct additional gaushalas for the 1.5 stray cows.
