Movie review – ABCD 2

ABCD 2

A good dance movie with a weak script

Many thought the ABCD 2 will be just another Indian dance movie, trying to copy Hollywood. But the fact remains that it is not. It is a dance movie brimming with passion.  Although, the storyline is weak, the dance sequences make up for it. There is no doubt that the movie is definitely better than its prequel.

ABCD 2

The movie starts with a wonderful song called ‘Happy Hour’, in which we see Prabhudeva doing what he does best, dance. He manages to set the tone of the film, but, unfortunately, the script of the movie is so weak that whenever there are no dance sequences in the film, the whole films looks like a drag. The movie also has some typical Indian masala in the form of the love story of Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor.

It is a story about Suresh (Varun) and Vinnie (Shraddha) along with their couple of friends are aiming big. They are planning to make it big in the dance world. Their journey starts from the point where they get booed out of a local dance competition because they had plagiarized a dance sequence from another group.  They do not get demotivated and continue to work towards their dream. This is where they meet Vishnu (Prabhudeva), the good-natured teacher. They soon go to Las-Vegas for the hip-hop championships. What happens there is for you to see and not be told.

The movie is actually inspired from real life circumstances, where a hip-hop group actually made it to the hip-hop championships. The film definitely proves a point that we Indians can surely pull out some crazy hip-hop moves. What works for the film is the fact the energy of the dancers. They are doing everything to achieve their goal of winning the hip-hop championships.

There is also a shade of patriotism in the movie. The typical formula, where everyone is booing India out, but somehow we manage to win against all odds.

Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor have done a good job. They have really worked hard on this film, and it shows. The only shortcoming of this film is its script. If only the script could have been better, this ABCD could have been an entirely different film. It could have been a wonder of the year.
