The Sunday World Cup final will be just like the last edition, this time again the final will be played between the co-hosts. This will be a match where one can expect pyrotechnics on a larger scale. With Brendon McCullum and Martin Guptill raring to go for the Australian bowlers, it will be interesting to see whether the Australian pacers will be as effective as they were against India. Same can be said for the Aussie side. Finch, Warner, and Maxwell definitely will be looking forward to the match. Last time they failed to score anything significant against the Kiwis, but this time they would want to make amends.
The last time the two met, it was an exciting match, with New Zealand bowling out the whole Australian side for a measly 151 run. But things got interesting when Australia almost took the match away from the Kiwis. The Aussie bowlers lead a terrific fight back and scared the tail of New Zealand’s line-up.
On Sunday cricket’s two biggest rivals will be going head to head. It will be a match between David and Goliath. This is the first time that the Kiwis have reached the final of a world cup. McCullum’s men will be high on confidence as they have won all their eight matches in the tournament.
Australia, on the other hand, have had a few hiccups in the tournament, and even lost a match in it (against New Zealand), which was a nail bitter. But the Aussies have managed to win against the unbeatable Indian team which looked rock solid throughout the tournament.
As far as key players are concerned, Australia has Steve Smith. He has played his first World Cup as if he has been playing World Cup matches for a long time. The young Aussie batsman has gone from strength to strength in this tournament and is definitely Australia’s key player of the tournament.
New Zealand’s biggest strength is their captain, Brendon McCullum. McCullum has played like a possessed man in this tournament. And it seems that seeing his exploits, his teammates too jumped on the same bandwagon, be it batting or bowling. This New Zealand team is fearless. It doesn’t really care about the opposition much. Be it a strong team or the lower ranked team, it has won matches in this tournament in a ruthless manner. Perhaps this is a start of a new brand of cricket by the Kiwis.
Sunday’s final will be a match that almost every cricket fan will be looking forward to. Two teams; one will be looking to lift the World cup for the fifth time, and the other will be looking to win its maiden World Cup title.
