Dance like no one’s watching!
Text: Divya Nagar
Moving rhythmically to music – typically following a set sequence of steps. It is a way of communicating through expression and it is usually for fun and entertainment. It is like story writing through our hands, legs and arms. That is exactly how Google describes it.
But what else?
Being a dancer myself, I feel very connected to any form of dance. To me it is not only movements on some rhythm – it’s a feeling that I display. For me it is way more than following a sequence of steps- rather it is creating something new every time I step on to the dance floor. I wonder – about my world without dance – and I see nothing. Dance is pure joy, like when I see a little baby giggling, it’s in the pain when I see a mother crying, and it’s in the love of a father for his daughter… It’s in every emotion that binds us and makes us who we are.
Talking about my inspiration for dance, it might sound weird to you but I found my inspiration in a little girl. Barely thirteen years old, she stood there at the roadside staring at the public who had gathered to see her perform. I stood at a side and watched – her dad gave her a hand-wave signal and she started performing. Suddenly all her fear was gone, there was no sign of sadness, no hint of being afraid, she danced gracefully, expressing herself to the utmost.
I then realized – no matter what you are inside, it brings out the best part of you, because it is an art – a form of expression, and it is beautiful.
And now when I dance, I don’t fear anyone, like I have no sadness in my life, like it’s impossible to give up… like no one’s watching!
