Abraxas NU recently sat down with  the DJ Amour for a quick chat.

Excerpts:

What is the meaning of your name ‘Amour’?

Amour means secret love in French. And I have had a love for music since childhood.

When did you realise that the console belongs to you?

It happened around six years ago, when I was introduced to DJ’ing by some of my friends and got a chance to turn my passion for music into a career.

Tell us a little about your home town – Mumbai. Has the ‘City of Dreams’ fulfilled yours?

Mumbai is a great city. Yes, I got a good start in my career and a lot of friends supported me as well.

What does success mean to you?

For me success is peace of mind and being happy with whatever you have.

What are your favourite haunts where you have performed on the national as well as international circuit?

I had an amazing gig in Rome. I really enjoy playing in Doha, Dubai, Bahrain and Indonesia to name a few. Nationally, I enjoy playing in almost all the cities.

Has there been a funny incident during a show that you can share with us?

There have been many funny incidents. But there is one I specifically remember. I was playing at this club in Mumbai, where the party was going on till late night. One guy who was totally drunk came to the console to request a song. I thought he was sober. Only later did I realise he was too high to even stand. The moment he was about to tell me the song, he fell right there. For a moment there was a complete silence in the club. However, after 10 seconds, the whole club started laughing! I felt bad for him but it was so funny, you know.

Have you had to face any challenges in your line of work?

Yes, there have been challenges. Today there is a lot of competition. But we female DJ’s support each other and make the challenges seem easy.

What is your take on girls entering a male -dominated profession?

I don’t really see it as a male dominated profession. In India DJ’ing was known to be a profession only for males. There were few DJ’s a couple of years back. But recently there have been many DJ in the field. It is an open profession – anybody with love for music can become a DJ.DJ Amour

Do you have any advice to future female DJ’s out there who aspire to follow in your footsteps?

Yes. A lot of new female DJs are taking to this profession just to earn money and fame. It shouldn’t be this way; you really need to have a love for music in your life to become a really good DJ.

What is your motto in life?

My motto is to make people happy with my music and DJ’ing skills.

Where do you see yourself 5 years from now? Are there any new projects in the pipeline?

I plan to setup my own studio and produce tracks full time. I’m currently working on a few tracks which I will be releasing soon.

You worked as a resident DJ at the J.W. Marriott in Mumbai. Tell us about your experience working there.

It was a really good experience. Being a resident DJ gave me the opportunity to learn a host of new genres, handle people, and understand the art of DJ’ing more deeply.
